GOTHIC HUT-BIG HOLES!, CD, 1989, USA

For an L.A. Free Music Society-related band, Gothic Hut seem mysteriously overlooked, though having albums with deeply unfortunate titles like "Show Me Yer Belly" in your discography could go some way toward accounting for that. That aside though, at this stage of their development, the tunes they were fabricating stand shoulder to shoulder with the more acclaimed output of L.A.F.M.S. post punk/art pop oriented units like Human Hands and Bpeople, with L.A.F.M.S. stalwart Rick Potts' presence in their line-up during this era precipitating a sound that lingers midway between the giddy festivity of his work in Human Hands and late model Steaming Coils at their most languid. Their first self titled LP from '82 (sans Potts and different, but also intriguing) will follow shortly.
