KARL BLAKE-PAPER-THIN RELIGION, CD, 1991, UK

Scrappy and whacked D.I.Y. nuggets of primitive art pop pleasure courtesy of Messr. Blake, one half of the devastating Lemon Kittens and one of the living masters of the warped, whose solo LP "The Prehensile Tales" and whose group project The Reflections have both been posted by me previously. Admittedly, this doesn't quite possess the third-mind transcendent sickness of his work opposite Danielle Dax in Lemon Kittens (little does), but then one wouldn't necessarily expect that from a collection of odds 'n' sods cobbled together from tapes gathering dust in his archives. Taken on it's own terms, this is a brain frazzling delight; clattering post punk skronk colliding with bent poetic recitation, key plonk and rhythm box plink and sundry splattered fragments of songform.
